extra clothes to go with the seasons!***
READING: We have met Mr. M with his “munching mouth”, Mr. T with his “tall
teeth”, Mr. F with his “funny feet”, Mr. H with his “horrible hair”, Mr. N with his
“noisy nose”, and Ms. A who says “aaaa-choo”, Mr. B with his “beautiful
buttons”, Mr. Z with his “zipping zippers”, Mr. S with his “super socks”, Mr. V
with his “violet vest,” Ms. E who likes to “exercise ,” and Mr. L with his “lemon
lollipops,” Mr. D and his “delicious doughnuts.” This month we will be
meeting Mr. G and his “gooey gum,” Mr. C and his “cotton candy,” and Miss I
and her “itchy itch.” All of our letter friends have really come alive for your
children, and I love how enthusiastic they are about our reading lessons! It is
wonderful to watch them bring the letter friends to life in their play as well!
SOCIAL STUDIES: We will begin the month with our unit about endangered
species. In Room 2, we study the Asian Elephant. We will be learning all
about where they live, and what their elephant families are like. We will also
be learning about what it means to be endangered, and how we can help
save the Asian Elephants! Next, we will be learning about the season, Spring,
and the weather it brings, and activities we are able to do in the warmer
weather. Rounding out the month of March will be our Easter and Passover
unit! In between these units, we will also be getting a special visit from a
sneaky leprechaun!
ART: In February, the students made so many wonderful art projects. Some
were sent home and some are decorating our classroom and hallways. The
art collection goes along with our Social Studies unit. Some of the pieces that
the children have made were hearts, George Washington, teeth, Abraham
Lincoln, and of course, the special projects the children made for you all for
Valentine’s Day! This month, we are looking forward to brightening up our
room with some fun and colorful spring projects, and of course, turning the
room into an African Safari!
MATH and SCIENCE: We are continuing to expand on our counting and
number recognition. In March, we will continue to learn about our numbers
through the use of finger plays, games, and songs. We will be learning about
a new shape-the shamrock, and focusing on a new color-green! We will
continue using our small/medium/large terminology to work on sorting
objects. We will also be learning that we can sort objects differently. We will
also be working on different ways we can group objects to form a certain
number. For example, if we are looking for 4 bears we can have a group of 1
and a group of 3. In science this month we will be exploring the unit of lights
and shadows. We will learn about the sources of light and where it comes
from. We will be experimenting with different colors using lights and the
color spectrum. We will learn what creates shadows and will produce our own
shadows outdoors. We will also explore the difference between natural and
artificial light sources.
CHARACTER COUNTS: In March, our character counts theme will focus on
respect. We will learn how important it is to work together and treat
everyone kindly.
COLOR OF THE MONTH: March’s color of the month will be green.
SHAPE OF THE MONTH: The shape of the month for March is a shamrock ☘️.
AUTHOR OF THE MONTH: Author of the month is Dr. Seuss. If you have any
books by this author, please send them in. We love sharing them!
As always, please feel free to email me with any questions or concerns…I am
always here for you and your children! [email protected]
Warmly,
Ms. D and Ms. O
