Dear Parents,
This year is just flying by! Your children continue to flourish each and every
day, and Ms. O and I are always so impressed with how enthusiastic and
happy they all are to be learning new things! The children jumped right back
into our routine after the holiday break, and it was so nice to see how happy
they were to be back in the classroom! We are looking forward to an exciting
month here in Room 2!

**Don’t forget to label everything!!!**
***If you haven’t done so already, please don’t forget to switch out your child’s
extra clothes to go with the seasons!***
READING: We have met Mr. M with his “munching mouth”, Mr. T with his “tall
teeth”, Mr. F with his “funny feet”, Mr. H with his “horrible hair”, Mr. N with his
“noisy nose”, and Ms. A who says “aaaa-choo.” Mr. B with his “beautiful
buttons”, Mr. Z with his “zipping zippers”, Mr. S with his “super socks” and Mr.
V with his “violet vest,” and Miss E who does “exercise!” This month we will be
meeting Mr. L with his “lemon lollipops,” and Mr. D with his “Delicious
Donuts!” All of our letter friends have really come alive for your children, and I
love how enthusiastic they are about our reading lessons everyday!
Social Studies: All the children have really come to love our Social Studies
units. They love reading our stories and learning all our songs that go along
with the units. Throughout the month of February, we will be learning about
Valentine’s Day, and Dental Health. For Valentine’s Day, we will learn about
the special holiday, and dressing in our PJ’s for a fun celebration. For dental
health, we will learn about brushing and taking care of our teeth.
💕 For Valentine’s Day, we will be celebrating with some fun activities on
Tuesday, February 13th and Wednesday, February 14th. We will be
exchanging Valentines with our friends, and spending the day being
comfy-so don’t forget to wear your favorite Pajamas! We are so excited!
Details were sent home in a separate notice, if you didn’t get it, or have
any questions about it, please let me know!💕
Art: In January, the students made wonderful and festive art projects. Some
were sent home and some are decorating our classroom and hallways. The
art collection goes along with our Social Studies units. Some of the pieces
that the children have made were the White House, American Flags, George
Washington, snowmen, and so many more. The children continue to enjoy
exploring different art techniques and mediums during their art group
everyday, and are always so proud of their wonderful creations!
Math and Science: We are continuing to expand on our counting and
number recognition. In February, we will continue to learn about our
numbers through the use of finger plays, games, and songs. We will be
learning about a new shape-the heart, and focusing on a new color-pink! We
will continue using our small/medium/large terminology to work on sorting
objects. We will also be learning about different ways to create numbers-for
example, 2 red bears and 2 orange bears makes 4, and so does 1 yellow bear
and 3 purple bears.
In science this month we will be exploring the unit of force and motion. We
will be learning how things change position and how they move by a force
such as a push or pull. We will be learning about motion through our various
experiments. Our first experiment will be using ramps and seeing what
objects travel the fastest down those ramps.
Character Counts: In February, our character counts theme will focus on
honesty. We will learn how important it is to always tell the truth and never
lie.
Color and Shape of the Month: This month we will be focusing on the color
pink and hearts.
Author of the Month: Author of the month is Don Freeman, author of the
Corduroy books. If you have any books by this author, please send them in.
We love sharing them!
We’re looking forward to a fun month full of new and exciting things!
