Reading:
So far this year we have met Mr. M with his “munching mouth”, Mr. T with his “tall teeth”, Mr. F with his “funny feet”, Mr. H with his “horrible hair”, Mr. N with his “noisey nose”, and Ms. A who says “aaaa-choo.” Mr. B with his “beautiful buttons”, Mr. Z with his “zipping zippers”, Mr. P with his “pointy patches”, Mr. S with his “super socks”, Mr. V with his “violet vest”, Ms. E who likes to “exercise ”, Mr. D with his “delicious doughnuts” , Mr. L with his “lemon lollipops,” Mr. G with his “gooey gum,” Mr. C who eats “cotton candy,” “itchy” Ms. I. This month, we will meet “optimistic” Miss O, and Mr. K with his “kind kick!!” All of our letter friends have really come alive for your children, and I love how enthusiastic they are about our reading lessons!
Social Studies:
We will begin the month by learning about Earth Day and recycling. We will discuss how to keep our planet safe and clean to live in while preserving it for future generations. We will also dive into our study of Africa. We’ll be learning about the rainforest and the savanna and all the animals that call both places home. We can’t wait to transform our classroom into an African Safari! The children are SO excited to teach you everything they know about Africa at our upcoming Parent’s Day, or “mommy and daddy day” as they’ve been calling it!
Art:
In March, the students made so many wonderful art projects. Some were sent home and some are decorating our classroom and hallways. The art collection goes along with the Social Studies units we have covered. Some of the pieces that the children have made were Easter Bunnies, Easter Eggs, Leprechauns, and Seder Plates. This month, we are looking forward to brightening up our room with some fun and exciting projects, and of course, turning the room into an African Safari! The children really love their art time with Ms. O and look forward to it each and every day!
Math and Science:
This month in math we will be focusing a lot on sorting. We will be sorting by several defining factors, such as color and size. We will also be talking about grouping and identifying objects by similarities and differences. For example-these Easter Eggs are the same color, but are different sizes. We will also continue using the terminology large, medium, small, and tall and short. These concepts are taught through active play and games. We will be learning about a new shape, the oval. We will also be learning about the color yellow.
In science this month we will be exploring the unit of sound. We will be learning how sound is vibrations. We will investigate some standard and non-standard items that make sounds. We will be conducting experiments throughout the month, and learning about sounds that different things create. Our sorting skills will also come into play when it comes to science activities-for example, things that are loud v. things that are quiet.
Character Counts:
In April , our character counts theme will focus on trustworthiness . We will learn how important it is to be reliable and dependable.
Color, Shape, and Author of the Month:
Our color of the month is Yellow.
Our Shape of the month is the Oval.
Our Author of the month is Eric Litman, the author of the Pete the Cat books. We love Pete the Cat and can’t wait to read about all his silly adventures! He’s already one of our absolute favorites!!
Ms. O and I are really so proud of how much all the children have grown this year! We are so excited to see them continue to explore the world around them as the year goes on! We’re looking forward to seeing you all at our Parent’s Day!
As always, please feel free to email me with any questions or concerns…I am always here for you and your children.
